Speaking for St Johns County Beach Services, Lt Jeremy Robshaw informed Historic City News that hot and sunny weather is forecast all week; making local beaches a great destination to enjoy the holiday festivities.
This year, July 4 coincides with a full moon — making for extreme high tides that will affect the beach at Vilano and Porpoise Point. These are traditionally favorite destinations for watching the fireworks.
The evening tide will be 3-feet above normal, Robshaw reported. Due to dredging this spring, the amount of available beach will be significantly less in the Porpoise Point area.
St Johns County Sheriff’s Office and Beach Services staff will be monitoring throughout the day and there may be closures to additional vehicular traffic to ensure there are an appropriate number of vehicles on the beach and everyone has a safe and pleasant experience.
Maintain a speed of 10 mph or less and keep vehicles within the driving lane when accessing the beach with your vehicle.
Use all trash recycling bins or take your trash with you.
Remove all tents, beach furniture, fill in your holes and knock down your sand castles.
Always swim near a lifeguard tower.
Keep all pedestrian and vehicle traffic out of the Conservation Zone.
Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
Alcohol and glass are not permitted on St Johns County beaches.
It is illegal to possess or ignite fireworks on or onto St Johns County beaches.
Beach is open to vehicles between 8:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
July 4 Porpoise Point and Vilano remain open to vehicle access for the fireworks.
