400-Richard-PalmerCommunity Affairs Corporal Catherine Payne updated Historic City News this morning with word that the man sought in connection with two car burglaries that occurred last week in the early morning hours of January 28, has been identified and arrested.

Two recent break-ins of vehicles located in the 300 block of Elementary Way in St Augustine, sent detectives searching for the guilty party — including the use of local media to broadcast the man’s description.

“One of the victim’s security cameras captured images of the suspect and the vehicle used during the burglaries,” Payne told reporters. “Investigators recovered two handguns and other property that was stolen from the victim’s vehicles.”

Sheriff’s Detective Jerry Montague arrested 24-year-old Richard William Palmer who resides at 5860 Datil Pepper Rd in St Augustine.

Palmer remains in custody charged with misdemeanor shoplifting ($2500 bond) first-degree felony burglary ($7500 bond) and two-counts of third-degree felony larceny ($7500 each count). Bond has not been established in the recent two grand theft and burglary charges, according to the St Johns County Detention Facility.
