Historic City News was notified that city staff will survey and devise a management plan for future use of the public beach property at Lighthouse Park; including the posting of public areas, connecting beach areas with public streets, and designing an area to be used for regulated boat storage.
As observed by former St Augustine Mayor, George Gardner, this direction was given to City Manager John Regan after half a year of neighborhood dispute, some 14 emails, a neighborhood meeting, city official inspections, a 5-page memo to city commissioners, nine speakers during public comment, and one hour of debate during Wednesday’s meeting.
A number of rental boat slots are anticipated in the future. Regan described discussions between neighbors and boat owners as “very respectful and open” in balancing property owner encroachments and abuses on the beach areas.
