Crash reminds readers to be alert

At about 12:52 p.m. Friday afternoon, Historic City News was notified of a two-vehicle crash on US-1 South, just north of the I-95 intersection – involving a heavy-duty Ford FX4 extended cab pickup truck, towing a trailered boat, and a 4-door passenger sedan.

The Florida Highway Patrol has not completed its investigation at this time, however, we know from the scene, that the truck and attached Pacific trailer crossed the centerline of US-1, striking the passenger car head on, crushing the front end and scattering debris across the roadway. A secondary collision with the driver’s rear quarter-panel of the truck and the rear of the passenger vehicle indicates that the smaller vehicle entered a spin at the time of the first collision.

St Johns County Fire Rescue Lieutenant Jeremy Robshaw reported that firefighters used special extrication techniques to remove the driver of the silver passenger car. The patient was transported to UF Health Jacksonville in serious condition.

The driver of the truck and trailer was treated at the scene and then transported to Flagler Hospital in stable condition.

It is not known if alcohol was a factor in the crash. FHP Troop G Sergeant Dylan L. Bryan has been contacted for each driver’s identity and if charges have been filed.
