Crossing in St Augustine at Galimore Center

Gwendolyn Duncan has invited Historic City News readers to attend a free screening of the Andrew Young film, “Crossing in St Augustine”, presented by the Anniversary to Commemorate the Civil Rights Demonstrations, Inc.

Young was a key strategist and negotiator during the civil rights campaigns in Birmingham and Selma that resulted in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

“Crossing in St. Augustine focuses on the impact of the civil rights movement in St Augustine; culminating in a visit by Young at the request of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1964,” Duncan told reporters. “Young was a personal friend and fellow advocate of King during that time.”

Young helped galvanize a movement that transformed the nation through King’s famed non-violent approach.

This film will be presented on Monday, January 21, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Willie Galimore Community Center located at 399 South Riberia Street in St Augustine.
