The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind reported to Historic City News that two distinguished leaders will address graduating seniors during the 99th Commencement Ceremony at 4:00 p.m. on May 31 in Kirk Auditorium.
Dr. T. Alan Hurwitz, President of Gallaudet University and Carl R. Augusto, President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Foundation for the Blind are expected to share words of encouragement to seniors from across the state of Florida as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
Special honors will be bestowed upon Deaf Department Valedictorian Sabina Ademovic and Deaf Department Salutatorian Sarah Kimbley as well as Blind Department Valedictorian Sarah Harris and Blind Department Salutatorian Hilary Reed. Both valedictorians will address their respective graduating classes, which total 84 seniors.
Pam Stewart, Chancellor of Public Schools for Florida Department of Education, Representative Dennis Baxley from Ocala and other dignitaries will be on hand for the Commencement Ceremony, which will include remarks by Christopher D. Wagner, Chair of the local school’s Board of Trustees and Dr. Jeanne Glidden Prickett, its President.
Graduation events will be held in Kirk Auditorium, live streamed http://livestream.com/fsdb and are open to the public.
Persons wishing to attend any of the public events must first go to Campus Police at the Genoply Street entrance to receive their visitor pass.
