Several Historic City News readers joined a crowd of a hundred or more citizens at 400 West Bay Street in downtown Jacksonville yesterday to show outrage over the revelation that the Internal Revenue Service was used to harass and abuse US citizens who are Tea Party members and members of other conservative Patriot groups.
Tea Party patriots held similar “Rein in the IRS” rallies and demonstrations in front of IRS office buildings across the country at 12:00 p.m. noon, local time.
“Our rights to participate in the political process and hold our government accountable for its abusive actions are protected by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution,” Lance Thate, Chairman of the Saint Augustine Tea Party told Historic City News. “Now it is time to let them know that our freedom of speech will not be infringed.”
One reader, Alice Cahan Beutien, traveled with a group from Putnam County and photographed some of the demonstrators at the Internal Revenue Service office building along the north bank of the St Johns River.
