Award-winning restaurateur, Pat Morrissey, invited local Historic City News readers to attend a special screening of “Honeydripper” at the Corner Bar at Gypsy Cab Company when “Dinner and a Movie” returns to benefit the St Johns Cultural Council on Wednesday June 26, 2013.
Your $8 movie ticket, partially underwritten by Coldwell Banker Premiere Properties, is a donation to the St Johns Cultural Council; food and drink, whatever you care to order, tax and tip are extra. Gypsy’s Corner Bar building is located at 828 Anastasia Boulevard in St Augustine.
“Come out, see a great film, eat fabulous food and support your local arts agency,” Morrissey told local reporters. “We will begin our dinner service at 6:30 p.m. and the movie begins at 7:45 p.m.”
The first film to be shown in this new series will be by one of America’s most renowned independent film makers, John Sayles. “Honeydripper” was filmed in 2007 in rural Alabama and set in 1950. This was a time of transition in the South, and a time of transition in music. It can be said this is a historical drama of the time when the blues gave birth to rock and roll.
The Cultural Council, whose mission is to enhance the lives of residents and visitors through arts and culture, said they were grateful to the producer of the film, Maggie Renzi, for granting permission to show the film during the “fun-raiser”.
St. Augustine’s own Diane Maurno was the make-up designer for “Honeydripper” and will be on hand to share anecdotes about the on location filming and to answer questions.
