St Johns County residents with valid identification are always admitted free of charge to the Oldest House, the Lightner Museum, the Fountain of Youth (special events excluded), the Ximenez-Fatio House, the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse, City Walks History Mystery Murder Evening Tour and the Hotel Ponce de Leon Legacy Tours at Flagler College. The daily tours and wine tastings at the San Sebastian Winery are free to everyone. Also, admission is free to everyone at the Fort Matanzas National Monument, St Photios Chapel, the Pena-Peck House, the Father Miguel O’Reilly Museum and the Mission Nombre de Dios Museum. Many other local attractions offer discounted admissions to St Johns County residents with valid identification.

Ignorance is a Choice Art Exhibit – Artist Donny Miller’s Ignorance is a Choice exhibit on display at St. Augustine’s space:eight Gallery. Donny’s unique graphic style of pairing seemingly benign images with witty declarations about humanity is as much philosophic as it is artistic. | Ideas and Images Presents Artist Liz Rodda – The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum at Flagler College will host works of multi-media artist Liz Rodda, who uses sculpture and video as a means to investigate our notions of fate, personal control and the future. The artist considers each work a “psychological experiment.” On Thursday, Flagler College presents a talk and reception featuring artist Liz Rodda at 7 p.m. in the Gamache-Koger Theatre in teh Ringhaver Student Center, 50 Sevilla St.. Founder’s Day and First Thanksgiving Celebration at Fountain of Youth – Opening at 9 a.m,, Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth Archeological Park presents a day of celebratory events marking the 448th anniversary of the founding of St. Augustine. Throughout the day, the public is invited to visit an authentic 16th century encampment featuring the Men of Menendez portraying the original soldiers and civilians who founded the city. At 10 a.m., a waterfront cannon barrage salutes Menendez. At 12:15 p.m., a cannon volley will be fired and repeated on the hour from 1 to 5 p.m. At 1 p.m.,sixteenth century reenactors present an accurate portrayal of the First Thanksgiving Dinner, which occurred in 1565 at the present site of the Fountain of Youth. Fifty-five years before the arrival of the Pilgrims in New England, Spanish colonists sat down with Native Americans for a Feast of Thanksgiving. The feast ends at 3 p.m. and will be followed by demonstrations of 16th century Spanish military and civilian life through 5 p.m. Admission is $12 adults; $8 children (6-12). 11 Magnolia Ave., St. Augustine. 904-829-3168 448th Anniversary of the Founding Of St. Augustine – Dozens of authentic reenactors portray the 1565 founding of St. Augustine by Pedro Menendez and his Spanish colonists. Colorful ceremonies and presentations, including the landing of Menendez, are followed by a special Mass of Thanksgiving celebrated by Bishop Felipe J. Estévez, Bishop of St. Augustine at the Mission Nombre De Dios’ outdoor altar, a Grand Procession, and an inspiring talk about the founding of St. Augustine by Dr. Timothy J. Johnson, Chairman of the Department of Humanities at Flagler College. The commemoration begins at 10 a.m. Admission and parking are free. The Mission Nombre de Dios is located off San Marco Avenue at 27 Ocean Ave., St. Augustine. Living History Day at Fort Matanzas National Monument – From 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., authentically clad reenactors demonstrate Spanish cannons at this fortress that guarded the southern approach to St. Augustine. | Story Time Celebration – Washington Oaks Gardens State Park will host a Story Time Celebration. At 2:30 p.m., Frank and Mary Lee Sweet, also known as “Back in Tyme” will tell stories and sing folksongs from the nineteenth century that tell how to take care of all the things that live and grow on our planet. Celebrate literacy as “Back in Tyme” uses the art of storytelling and the emotion of music to illuminate Florida’s history and folklore.
