Florida Federation of Young Republicans convene here

Historic City News learned that the Florida Federation of Young Republicans chose St Augustine to be their host for meetings and entertainment this weekend; wrapping up their Spring Quarterly meeting yesterday.

The busy meeting and conference schedule still allowed time for delegates to dine out and participate in a number of local activities during their three-day stay; that began Friday evening with a happy hour and dinner at Blackfly – The Restaurant.

“Florida Young Republicans are registered Republicans who are 40-years-old, or younger, and are interested in taking an active role in Republican Party politics,” Jaime Parham, President of the St Johns County Young Republicans, told Historic City News.

The Florida organization helps local Young Republican clubs motivate constituents to vote and become active in local, state and national politics.

Liliana Kurpanik, secretary of the St Johns County Republican Executive Committee, reported that the local Republican Party approved a financial contribution of $500 to assist the Florida Federation of Young Republicans with their convention. Guests stayed at the Sleep Inn, located at 601 Anastasia Boulevard from May 29-June 2.

All of Saturday’s events, through lunch, were held at the historic Casa Monica Hotel, beginning with a meeting of elected state officers and region chairs followed by region caucus meetings that were open to all members.

The Constitution and By-Laws, Platform, Finance, Communications and Club Development committees all finished their business in time for a special luncheon with Ron DeSantis, Representative for Florida’s 6th Congressional District; which encompasses St Johns and Flagler counties.

After-lunch meetings convened in the Ponce de Leon Hall, built in 1888 as a luxury hotel and now home to Flagler College.

Participants also had the opportunity to go on a special Ghost Tour Pub Crawl.

“Young Republicans take part in GOP activities in their communities — doing everything from registering voters and phone-banking to managing campaigns and running for office,” Parham told reporters. “They provide crucial support to the Republican Party and work to ensure the future of the party in their communities and nationwide.”
