Historic City News readers are invited to participate, for free, when volunteers at Fort Mose Historic State Park, dressed in period attire, offer visitors a fascinating glimpse into the past this Saturday, August 24, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Throughout the year, re-enactors offer visitors a chance to discover a different topic; and, this month’s program will focus on colonial medicines and healing.
Visitors are offered a fascinating glimpse into 18th century colonial Saint Augustine and learn how ailments would have been diagnosed and treated during that time. Kim Welborn will engage, captivate, surprise and entertain you with the accepted remedies of the day. She is renowned for her knowledge of colonial medicinal plants and herbs.
Also experience a delightful Spanish meal being cooked in the chosa using common ingredients in the Spanish, Native American and African households of the day.
Do you think you could join the militia? Watch as the Fort Mose militia and Spanish troops hold a practice loading and firing their flint lock muskets.
Participants should dress appropriately for the weather and bring insect repellent, as the program will be held outdoors. Program is weather permitting. This program is funded by a grant through the Florida Humanities Council.
