Fourth annual Evening for the Estuaries

The Friends of the Guana-Tolomato-Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve are hosting their fourth annual fund-raiser to support the mission of protecting and preserving our ocean and estuary resources and Historic City News readers are encouraged to participate.

Plan to attend OceanWise on Saturday, October 19, at 6:00 p.m., at the Guana-Tolomato-Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve Environmental Education Center located at 505 Guana River Road in Ponte Vedra Beach,

“The evening begins with a beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres cocktail reception,” Teri Webley told local news reporters. “Throughout the evening, donors will be entertained with the music of integrated steel drum band, Steel in Motion; bringing you the sounds of the Caribbean.”

The highlight Saturday evening will be a silent auction to benefit the Guana-Tolomato-Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve; featuring bidding on a Serenata Beach Club membership.

This exciting event will take place overlooking the Guana River as guests dine on sustainable seafood from area restaurants, including:

Historic City News editor Michael Gold attended last year’s event and reports that the Evening for the Estuaries includes a variety of ocean-friendly sustainable seafood fare prepared by selected chefs from local restaurants. “Your donation, in the amount of $50 per person, covers the beautiful view, delectable food, and satisfaction of supporting a great cause,” Gold said.

The featured honoree will be John H. Hankinson Jr — executive director of Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Task Force who boasts 30-years of experience in environmental policy and regulation.
