Highlights from county commission meeting

Historic City News reporters watched as two proclamations came before the St Johns County Board of Commissioners during their regular meeting yesterday morning; including a proclamation of March 7, 2013 as “International Women’s Day” and March 10, 2013 as “Coquina Veteran’s World War II Day”.

Other business to come before the board from the regular agenda included:

Item One – Presentation by the PACT Prevention Coalition and Youth Advisory Board

LeAnn Daddario, Coordinator for the PACT Prevention Coalition of St. Johns County, and students from the Youth Advisory Board, presented the latest information concerning drug and alcohol use by youth within the County. The presenters emphasized the prevalence of social hosting and asked that the Board consider an ordinance which would impose civil fines on adults who choose to participate in the activity.

Item Two – Request for a Non-Zoning Variance, Canal Road
This item was removed from the Agenda.

Item Three – Discussion and Review of the Commission’s Goals and Objectives

Michael Wanchick, County Administrator, provided the Board with a brief presentation concerning the Board of County Commissioners goals and objectives proposed and discussed at the February 26 Board of County Commissioners Goals and Objectives workshop. Wanchick noted that no changes had been made to the goals. The Board approved the goals unanimously.

Item Four – Consideration of Rule Regarding Commissioner use of County Vehicles

Commissioner McClure provided the Board with a presentation concerning Rule 1.405.H of the St. Johns County Commissioners. He suggested amendment of the rule to allow Commissioners use of County Vehicles to conduct County business. The Board agreed to further discuss the item at a future Commission workshop.
