Jaguars Jones-Drew off hook on battery charge

This morning Historic City News was informed that Assistant State Attorney Chris France has filed an announcement with the court of “no information” to allegations that Jacksonville Jaguars football player Maurice C Jones Drew committed simple battery during a Reggae Sunday incident at the Conch House Marina bar and restaurant.

“Based on the facts and the law, the State cannot establish the charge beyond and to the exclusion of all reasonable doubt,” France wrote in the announcement. “It is our intent not to prosecute; with respect to the charge of simple battery.”

The St Augustine Police Department collected evidence at the scene and remains in custody of that evidence. In the copy of the court filing obtained by Historic City News, the police are instructed to hold that evidence, “for further court proceedings or instructions”.
