Historic City News has learned that representatives from the State Attorney’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the St Johns, Flagler, Putnam and Volusia County sheriff’s offices joined Congressman Ron DeSantis in St Augustine yesterday to discuss law enforcement services.
Topics discussed at the meeting ranged from crime prevention, to citizen protection and other criminal justice issues.
“American’s cannot thank our law enforcement community enough for all they do to protect our families and our freedoms,” Representative DeSantis told reporters. “The agencies in the sixth district deserve our utmost respect and I will do everything in my power to ensure that they have the tools they need to continue their efforts.”
The meeting, hosted by St Johns County Sheriff David Shoar, was an opportunity for law enforcement leaders to share ideas with each other and the congressman, who is a former military and government prosecutor.
“We appreciate Representative DeSantis sitting down with us today,” Shoar said. “The congressman has demonstrated that he is a true leader and all of us in law enforcement are looking forward to continuing to work with him.”
After graduating from Yale University, DeSantis went on to receive his law degree from Harvard. He is a decorated Naval officer; having been awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal. He is an adjunct professor of US Military Law at Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville and is a Lieutenant, Judge Advocate General Corps, in the US Navy Reserve. Ron DeSantis and his wife Casey reside in St Johns County. They attend Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ponte Vedra Beach.
