Letter: Don’t dismiss the US Constitution

Dear Editor,
Never, in the memory of Americans still living, has liberty been so close to extinction.
The storm clouds of tyranny blow from Washington. The U.S. Constitution has been shredded by the current occupant of the White House. The progressive influence in the Congress has resulted in a dysfunctional body. It fails to live up to its responsibilities and totally ignores the constitutional limitations placed on the federal government.
Executive and the legislative bodies are allowed to run roughshod over the people’s liberty.
Supporting the bloated government, the Supreme Court of the United States legislates, an activity far in excess of the powers granted in Article III of the U.S. Constitution.
Our elected officials in Tallahassee, bribed by Federal grant money, money that is simply printed, which steals the wealth of all those who produce and save, fail to protect the State’s interests and the liberty of the people.
Mandates from federal and state governments place burdens on county and municipal governments — offering opportunities for corruption.
Our founding documents created a Constitutional Republic. The essence of being an American has been individual liberty. Our system supports that concept.
Terry Buchenmeyer, in a letter to the editor of this publication, declared that, “The rigidity of political and economic philosophies devised hundred or more years ago pretty much useless”.
In one swift statement he dismisses the U.S. Constitution and the founders who wrote it. His radical leftist political and economic beliefs are not consistent with American liberty.
Domestic Marxists, Communists and Socialists are the storm clouds of tyranny in our age.
