Middle school student attacks school resource deputy

A 14-year-old Pacetti Bay Middle School student was called out of class today for a meeting between his parents and school officials; but, Historic City News learned that soon after the meeting concluded, the student was arrested and taken to jail after he attacked the School Resource deputy.

The teenage boy became irate and combative when he learned that he had to return to class after the meeting, a sheriff’s spokesman told reporters.

“This student was arrested on felony battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence charges, as well as disorderly conduct and violation of probation,” Kevin Kelshaw said. “The juvenile was booked into the County Jail and detained by authorities of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.”

According to the incident report, the School Resource deputy attempted to escort the student back to class. The juvenile grabbed the deputy’s arm and pushed him; then placed the deputy in a headlock. Before the deputy could break away, the student punched him once in the mouth, and was attempting to grab items on his belt — including his handgun.

The deputy was able to push the juvenile away and deploy his taser into the student, incapacitating the attacker long enough for him to be secured.

Emergency medical personnel responded and medically cleared the teenager for transport to the St Johns County Detention Facility.
