St Augustine Police Chief, Loran Lueders, reminds all Historic City News readers that local schools start class on Monday, and he asks that the community be especially alert in the vicinity of school crossings and school campuses.
According to the St Johns County School District, whether there are school-age children in your household or not, expect to be affected by the approximately 32,000 students making their way to class Monday, many onboard the district’s fleet of 166 school buses.
“For many people, the first day of school means changes in commute routines with the increase in traffic as student drivers and parents make their way to and from schools,” Lueders said. “Whether you have school age children or not, it’s worthwhile to plan ahead and leave a little early Monday, in order to arrive at your destination on-time — while being alert and cautious.”
There are 43 separate campuses this year. Many students, and parents, will be making the trip for the first time, or, for the first time at a new campus.
