A spokesman for Richardson Site Prep Inc. informed Historic City News that St Johns County pedestrians will soon be able to take advantage of a new section of sidewalk along SR-13; from Holly Berry Lane to Roberts Road in Fruit Cove.
Next week, the company, based in Fort White, begins construction on the nearly half-mile long project; which includes building a new sidewalk, improving drainage and installing pedestrian countdown signals and a handrail at Roberts Road.
The project, being constructed by Richardson at a cost to the state of approximately $150,000, is scheduled for completion by spring of 2014; although, that could change because of bad weather.
The contractor will work Monday through Friday from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., but no lane closures are anticipated at this time. Construction on the sidewalk will cross side streets and driveways along the project. Motorists should use caution and watch for construction equipment in the area.
