Police arrest man accused of elder abuse

St Augustine Police Department spokesman, Mark Samson, reported to Historic City News this morning that officers made arrests for minor infractions in the last 24 hours and responded to four traffic crashes during their shifts.

George Anthony Edwards, a 61-year-old man who resides at 96 St Francis Street in St Augustine, was arrested for abuse of an elderly, disabled woman who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and is unable to care for herself. DCF has been notified and is involved in the investigation. Edwards remains in custody in lieu of $2,500 bond.

City workers reported the theft of a city-owned street sign from the corner of St George and Treasury Streets. The sign is valued at $150 and was last seen Saturday during the “Pink up the Pace” run, according to the incident report.

A city resident reported the theft of the license plate from his boat trailer while it was parked on the property of First Coast Marine, located at 1860 S Ponce de Leon Boulevard. “This is a good opportunity to again mention to be mindful of your property,” Samson told local reporters. “Things, like a tag, should be removed for safe keeping. Put them back on when you pick up your vehicle.” In this case the tag number was entered into a state and national computer system where all other law enforcement agencies will be able to discover that it was stolen.

The homeowner at 6 Tremerton Street in St Augustine reported the theft of an antique wood-fired water heater, valued at $500, and an antique fireplace, valued at $200. At this time, the homeowner could not provide any identifying marks or serial numbers from either item. The investigation is continuing.
