Tuesday afternoon, Historic City News learned of an investigation by St Johns County detectives where a 27-year-old man has finally confessed to staging a burglary to a relative’s home in an effort to steal and pawn guns and other property.
Christopher Michael Chambliss, who lives in a trailer at 545 CR-13A South, first denied any involvement in the burglary Tuesday afternoon; after a relative discovered a burglary to their residence on the same property.
The next day, Chambliss had a change of heart. He drove the victim around and collected some of the items that were disposed of in a nearby wooded area. Two flat screen televisions, a gaming system, along with numerous games and DVD’s were reported stolen, as were numerous firearms.
After his confession, Chambliss told detectives that he threw 6-7 guns into a ditch off Allen Nease Road. A member of the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team responded and located 13 guns in the ditch.
The firearms and recovered property was returned to the victims. Chambliss was arrested and charged with six-counts of grand theft of a firearm and grand theft last night. He remains in custody at the St Johns County Detention Facility in lieu of bonds totaling $3,500.
The investigation is continuing.
