Republican Assembly seats new officers

This evening, the Board of Directors of the St Johns County Republican Assembly held a special meeting for the purpose of electing a new President and Vice President, according to an announcement received by Historic City News from board member Randy Covington.

In a vote by a quorum of the board, by acclimation, Eric West was elected president. Immediate past president, Jim Arpaia, who asked to step down from the responsibilities of president, agreed to serve as vice president until the next election.

“I have always been very grateful to Jim for coming forward to help us get this organization off the ground,” Covington said as he nominated Arpaia to his new role. “I value his judgment, candor, demeanor, and most importantly, his friendship.”

In a vote by a quorum of the board, by acclimation, Jim Arpaia was elected vice president.

In his announcement, Covington says the Assembly is now solidly organized to proceed with the important work facing them in the coming year. Citing “very important seats” up for grabs in St Johns County in the 2014 election, Covington told reporters that the local Republican Assembly will take the lead to insure conservative principles are upheld for the benefit of all Republicans in the county.
