The Northeast Florida Builders Association reported to Historic City News that the total overall number of building permits issued in Northeast Florida during April increased by nearly 8 percent — but St Johns County did not help those numbers; booking a 5.1 percent loss from the previous month.
In total, there were 606 new permits issued in April, up 7.8 percent from March. Every one of the four counties in the region increased their issue of new permits -except- St Johns County.
St Johns County led with the greatest number of new permits pulled in April, at 262; but, that was down from 276 permits in March. Duval County came in second, with 216 permits, followed by Clay County with 93 permits. Nassau County issued 35 new building permits — up 34.6 percent from the prior month.
So far this year, St Johns County has issued 917 new permits. During the same four months last year, only 566 new permits were pulled. No explanation was given for the local fall in new permits.
