Teenage student reports sexual assault

Historic City News was advised that a Matanzas High School English teacher and track coach was arrested this morning after a local teenager came forward and provided details of multiple sexual assaults between August 2010 and May 2011 while she was only 16‐years‐old.

Flagler County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested 31-year-old James R Wolfe at about 11:50 a.m. at his residence; located at 400 Ocean Marina Drive in Flagler Beach. Wolfe was charged with 7 second-degree felony counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

“This man violated his position of authority as a teacher, coach and mentor of a young student and upon conviction should be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law,” Sheriff James L. Manfre told reporters. “He should never be allowed to harm another child.”

The investigation began on August 14, according to Sheriff’s reports. The victim was interviewed by detectives and described how she was taken to Wolfe’s residence, where the assaults occurred. Officials say that the victim was uneasy inside Wolfe’s home and that he used alcohol and drugs to lower her resistance. In each of the incidents where the sexual assaults occurred, the victim told detectives that she felt compelled to engage in sexual acts with Wolfe because of his position as a teacher and coach.

Following Wolfe’s arrest he was transported to the Flagler County Inmate Facility where he is being held in lieu of $140,000 bond.
