The online auction of 450+ canvases featuring artistic impressions of St. Augustine created by community members, at ancientcitymosaic.com, ends on Sunday August 4, but you can still stroll through the exhibit Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., and from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, August 8th.
Artists of all ages and ability levels were asked to create a canvas that depicted St. Augustine. Adults received 12-inch-by-12-inch canvases and youth received 8-inch-by-10-inch canvases.
“The goal was to receive at least 450 canvases with the number representative of St. Augustine’s upcoming anniversary in 2015,” Public Affairs Director Paul Williamson told local Historic City News reporters. “Community members ranging in age from three to 80 participated in Ancient City Mosaic.”
During the exhibit’s run at the 24 Cathedral Place Office Building on the Plaza de la Constitution in St Augustine, art enthusiasts have had the opportunity to bid on many of the featured pieces. The proceeds, going to the St. Augustine Sertoma Club, will be donated to the St. Johns County Education Foundation Arts Alive Program.
Many St. Johns County schools and organizations contributed artwork, including R.J. Murray Middle School, Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind Early Learning Center, R.B. Hunt Elementary School, Ponte Vedra High School, South Woods Elementary School, Julington Creek Elementary School, Mill Creek Elementary School, Turning Point at Calvary, St. Augustine Youth Services, and Girl Scouts of Gateway Council troops.
