Historic City “News in Photos” contest began receiving submissions of digital photographs this morning that tell a story of any newsworthy activity in St Johns County. Prizes for the contest are sponsored by Computer Doctors of St Augustine.
Entrants are competing for cash and prizes in the free local contest that continues for the next four weeks. The contest is focused on the importance of imagery in reporting daily news events and the people whose lives are affected.
“Historic City News was founded on the principle that citizen journalists play as much a part in reporting the news as professional news writers,” said Michael Gold, its managing editor. “With the advent of instant, high-quality digital photography and video as close as your smartphone, tablet or other mobile device, the ability of the press to tell news stories, enhanced by images, is changing the way we report events that affect everyone’s lives.”
As the contest progresses, Historic City News will publish galleries featuring selected entries under consideration by a panel of judges selected by Computer Doctors.
