Historic City News has learned that this morning, the Florida Highway Patrol Criminal Interdiction Unit was able to intercept about $120,000 in compressed high grade marijuana in St Johns County; before it completed its intended journey from Miami to Jacksonville.
At 10:07 a.m. a silver Ford F-150 pickup truck was stopped on I-95 at SR-206 after troopers noticed window tint applied to the vehicle that was significantly darker than the legal limit.
During an interview, troopers became suspicious that the driver, 44-year-old Roger Andres Silva-Aguilera, who resides at 1360 North 28th Street in Miami, was involved in other illegal activity.
Silva-Aguilera voluntarily consented to a search of his vehicle and its contents. During the initial search, troopers detected the odor of raw marijuana inside the vehicle. Further investigation revealed a large box in the rear passenger compartment. When troopers inspected the dog food bag inside, they found that it contained 30 brick shaped packages of marijuana weighing about 1.1 lbs. each.
Silva-Aguilera admitted to transporting the contraband from Miami to Jacksonville for profit. He was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana, possession of marijuana over 20 grams, and possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
He remains in custody in the St Johns County Detention Facility in lieu of $35,000 bond.
