Tuesday flash mob deemed a success

Historic City News readers joined more than 100 people; men and women of all ages gathered in the plaza downtown to dance as part of a “flash mob” assembled to protest violence against women on Tuesday, April 2.

Participants in the event, students and community members, dubbed “Flash Mob on the Quad”, gathered at the Plaza de la Constitution and staged a spontaneous flash mob dance at 5:30 p.m.

“The dancers, sign holders and spectators, many clad in teal, were cheered on by the crowd of visitors, spring breakers and other onlookers,” said event coordinator, Kim Brumfield. “The group danced to Tena Clark’s Break the Chain, as part of a global movement to end violence against women and show support for Betty Griffin House and our mission to have peace at home.”

Choreography and filming of the event was directed by Nadia Ramoutar, a faculty member at the Art Institute of Jacksonville. The resulting video will be posted to YouTube in the next week or so, Ramoutar told reporters. http://www.youtube.com/user/bettygriffinhouse
