Historic City News was informed that, over the weekend, St Johns County deputies captured two men who attempted to flee the scene of a vehicle burglary that occurred near the 2700 block of Spinnerbait Court in Heritage Landing subdivision.
Shortly after 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning, a witness observed two men exit one vehicle and then approach another vehicle — attempting to open its doors. Deputies responded to the area of 2800 block of Sheephead Court to investigate.
When they arrived, the deputies spotted 24-year-old Jonathon Edward Gagnon and 28-year-old Jesse Jacob Bolton inside a vehicle; and, as the officers approached, the men leapt out and fled through the backyard of the residence — the deputies gave chase.
While the burglars were trying to make good their escape, Gagnon attempted to jump a privacy fence, but he was caught. Gagnon fought with Deputy Zeke Kelly, and others, until he was restrained.
Deputy J.D. Hayward responded with his K-9 “Joker” who tracked Bolton to Mandarin Terrece; where he was apprehended without further incident.
Gagnon, who lives at 520 Florida Club Boulevard, was charged with two counts each of burglary to a vehicle, battery on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest with violence, and one count each of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, obstruction, and criminal mischief.
He was released after posting bonds totaling $11,500.
