Several local Historic City News readers reported that they attended this morning’s groundbreaking ceremonies for two news schools located in northern St. Johns County.
At 9:00 a.m., in the Durbin Crossing subdivision, the yet un-named kindergarten through 8th grade facility broke ground at 475 Longleaf Pine Parkway in St Johns; followed by another ceremony in Ponte Vedra Beach.
“The construction of these schools is part of the school district’s Five-Year Building Plan, and each is scheduled to open in August 2014,” Nicole Cubbedge, director, Facilities Planning and Growth Management told Historic City News this morning.
The second groundbreaking ceremony, also an un-named kindergarten through 8th grade facility in the Nocatee subdivision, began at 10:30 a.m. located at 105 Greenleaf Drive.
St Johns County School Superintendent Dr. Joseph Joyner and members of the St Johns County School District were in attendance at each ceremony and were entertained by student performances from Allen D Nease and Creekside High Schools.
Tercilla Courtemanche Architects developed the prototype design and Elkins Constructors, Inc. is the contractor on both jobs.
