An update received by Historic City News this afternoon, concerning the two-car crash that had traffic diverted on SR-16 at Four Mile Road for three hours this morning, has taken a turn for the worse; we have learned that the 24-year-old driver of the 1998 Mazda 4-DR, has not survived her injuries.
The driver, Samantha Jean Silvers, who resided at 524 Julia Street in St Augustine, was traveling north on Four Mile Road and stopped for the red light at the intersection of SR-16 at about 7:00 a.m. When the light turned green, Silvers proceeded to cross SR-16, and attempting to go left (westbound).
The second driver, 26-year-old Amber L. Pierle who resides at 2707 Fresno Dr in Jacksonville Beach, was traveling east on SR-16, west of Four Mile Road, in the outside lane. The front of Pierle’s vehicle struck the driver’s side of Silvers vehicle after she failed to stop her 2001 Ford truck at the red traffic signal.
The Mazda overturned from the impact of the crash, trapping Silvers inside and causing about $5000.00 in damage to the vehicle.
“The patient was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Flagler Hospital in critical condition as a trauma arrest,” Public Information Officer Matthew Sara told reporters. “Crews were able to re-establish vitals while enroute to Flagler, and the patient was stabilized for transportation to University of Florida Health Jacksonville by air ambulance.”
Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Investigator, Corporal Mike Daniels, told reporters that charges are pending against Pierle as the investigation continues. Pierle suffered only minor injuries and about $3500.00 in damage to her truck.
