View the full moon from the Solarium Sunday evening

The Solarium at Flagler College, the fourth floor parlor atop the former Hotel Ponce de Leon, has been closed to the public for decades; however, this Sunday, June 23, from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Historic City News readers are invited to attend a limited-event and view the full moon from the recently restored space.

Floor-to-ceiling windows on all four sides allow sunlight to pour into the vaulted space flanked by roof terraces and twin towers that rise above the St. Augustine skyline.

The Solarium boasts a breathtaking panoramic view of the city.

Tickets for the “Sunset-Moonrise” event in the Solarium cost $15 and will be available for purchase at Flagler’s Legacy, inside the college’s Rotunda located at 74 King Street prior to the tour. The first 75 people may purchase remaining tickets on a first-come, first-served basis at the door.

The Solarium’s $2.3 million renovation completes the college’s restoration of the Hotel Ponce de Leon, which is a National Historic Landmark.

Built by Henry M. Flagler, industrialist, railroad pioneer and co-founder of Standard Oil, the hotel first opened in 1888 and is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.
