Historic City News reporters learned that during last month’s Florida Main Street Annual Conference, held on Vilano Beach in St Augustine, the Bureau of Historic Preservation gave prominent recognition to the Vilano Beach Main Street Program and the people who are making it a success.
Florida Main Street is a technical assistance program of the Florida Department of State that aims to identify, evaluate, and preserve Florida’s historic resources. The Division of Historical Resources awards program encourages and acknowledges local Main Street accomplishments that advance the goals of the Florida Main Street.
Vivian Browning, President of Vilano Beach Main Street, was recognized and presented a Merit Award for the category “Outstanding Local Florida Main Street Supporter”.
Honor Award achievements were presented to Vilano Beach Main Street for the categories “Outstanding Florida Main Street Special Event”, recognizing the Plastic Bottle Boat Race, and “Outstanding Florida Main Street Private-Public Partnership”, recognizing the Magic Beach Motel.
The Public-Private Partnership award was collectively given to Vilano Beach Main Street, St. Johns County, North Shores Improvement Board, North Shores Corridor Design Review Board, Harry Scherwinski, and Les Thomas.
