Historic City News has learned that, this year, Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida will recognize St. Augustine Beach Police Officer Erin M. McLerran, St. Augustine Police Sergeant Anthony Cuthbert, and St. Johns County Sheriff’s Corporal Gregory T. Suchy; among the 20 law enforcement officers in the 7th Judicial Circuit who have been nominated by their supervisors for outstanding service.
Crime Stoppers, a non-profit citizen support organization, works with the law enforcement agencies of the 7th Judicial Circuit; providing the “Crime Stoppers Tip Line”. Operators collect information which may help solve crimes. Those tips are provided to law enforcement, while allowing the caller to remain anonymous, if they wish. The Tip Line serves Volusia, Flagler, Putnam and St Johns counties.
“All nominees are given recognition by virtue of their nomination,” said Nancy Epps, President of Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida’s Board of Directors. “Each has been selected for their accomplishments and outstanding dedication to law enforcement, and each will be presented with an award that expresses our appreciation for their heroic contributions to society.”
The mission of Crime Stoppers is to solve and prevent crime through citizen participation. Last year, 276 arrests were made based on information anonymously given to Crime Stoppers.
This year’s Banquet date coincides with National Police Week, during which time Law Enforcement Officers across the country are recognized for their service and sacrifice in protecting our communities. The 16th Annual Community Banquet will be held at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center on May 14th, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
