Historic City News has learned that the man apprehended by deputies shortly after 1:00 a.m. Monday in the 1900 block of Wildwood Drive, who identified himself to authorities as “Marcus Trumbly”, has been positively identified as 26-year-old Khris Antwanlyons Tobler whose last known address was 211 South Nassau Street in St Augustine.
That evasive move has added to the charges currently pending against Tobler to include armed robbery, resisting arrest without violence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and giving false identification to a law enforcement officer. He is currently in custody in the St. Johns County Detention Facility at the Neil J Perry Criminal Justice Complex in lieu of $74,500 total bond.
Tobler was the last of the three armed robbers to be taken into custody, after a high-speed car chase that ended with deployment of stop strips and a well-executed PITT maneuver. The getaway vehicle, a blue, Mitsubishi sedan, was run off of the road and onto a driveway in the 1900 block of Wildwood Drive. The robbers fled into a heavily wooded area before being caught.
Historic City News previously reported the Sunday night arrest of 23-year-old Deshawn Renord Perkins; who complained of chest pains and an ankle injury when he was being pulled out of the woods soon after the robbery of the Kangaroo convenience store at US-1 South.
Emergency medical personnel with St Johns County Fire Rescue assisted Perkins by transporting him to Flagler Hospital for treatment of his alleged injuries. While he was being escorted, he broke free and sprinted out of an unlocked door on the east side of the hospital. He disappeared in the dark when he ran into the marsh.
Perkins surrendered when a canine deputy arrived to begin a search. That evasive move has added and additional escape charge to the previous armed robbery, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and resisting arrest without violence charges. He is being held in the County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $171,500.
Last, but not least, 28-year-old Tyrus Udell Kornegay who resides at 870 Josiah Street in St Augustine, has not yet been released from UF Health Jacksonville where he is continuing to receive critical treatment from a gunshot injury sustained while trying to flee the crime scene. Kornegay’s condition dictated that he be airlifted to the trauma center at UF Health. From inside the getaway car, one of the accomplices decided to toss the handgun out of the window — in the process, it discharged a bullet, striking Kornegay in the back.
