Bicycle rider crashes into oncoming car and killed

Just before 10:00 p.m. last night, Historic City News was notified that an Orlando area man was struck and killed by an oncoming motor vehicle as he was riding his bicycle against traffic on US-1 South at Moultrie Bluff.

The victim, 53-year-old Bruce Lyndell Johnson, whose last known address was 410 W Central Boulevard in Orlando, was traveling on his bicycle, southbound on the northbound side of US-1 just south of Brainard Drive.

A green Honda CRV, driven by 25-year-old Megan Mullins of St Augustine, was traveling north in the right lane of US-1 when the front-right of her vehicle struck Johnson; throwing him off the bicycle. His body came to rest on the east side shoulder of the highway.

Toxicology will determine if Johnson had been under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash. No charges have been filed at this time. Johnson was stabilized at the scene by St Johns County emergency medical personnel and transported to Flagler hospital; where he was pronounced dead.
