Busy weekend for St Johns County elections officials

Historic City News will be on hand at high noon tomorrow when qualifying week in St Johns County comes to a close and those candidates whose names will appear on the August Primary Election ballot will be known. After qualifying closes Friday at 12:00 p.m., no more candidates will be able to throw their hat into the ring this year, although some may drop out.

St Johns County Supervisor of Elections, Vicky Oakes, told local Historic City News reporters that after the dust settles Friday afternoon, the focus of her attention will be redirected from the candidates to the voters who may participate by mail, through early voting, or at their precinct on Election Day.

“This will be a busy weekend for the Supervisor of Elections and staff,” Oakes said this morning. “We have two voter registration drives scheduled this weekend — one in Nocatee and one in Lincolnville.”

We will have information available on the upcoming August 26th Primary and November 4th General Elections. It’s a great time to register to vote, update your voter registration or request absentee ballots.

Registration books close for the Primary Election on July 28th.

As a reminder, Florida is a “Closed Primary” state; and, in a Primary Election, you are required to vote the ballot of the party in which you are registered.
