The Castillo de San Marcos National Monument has informed local Historic City News reporters that they will host special evening tours on Saturday, November 22, and readers are invited to enjoy a candlelit timeline tour exploring the many flags that have flown over its ancient coquina walls.
Discover the events and significances of the Castillo through the eyes of the Soldados from the First Spanish Period (1695-1763), British Redcoats (1763-1784), soldiers of the American Civil War (1861-1865), covering periods in our history, spanning nearly 250 years.
“Join historically dressed staff and volunteers for this Soldiers through Time event,” Administrative Support Assistant, Mary P Sims, said. “There will be six nighttime candlelit tours of the fort with each lasting roughly 45 minutes.”
Tours depart from the ticket booth at 6:45, 7:00, 7:15, 7:30, 7:45, and 8:00 p.m., space is limited.
Nonrefundable tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis, and may be purchased in advance at the ticket booth or by phone by calling (904) 829-6506 ext. 232.
The cost is $8 per adult ages 16 and up, $4 per child ages 5 to 15, and free for children under 5.
