City announces King Street redesign public meeting

St Augustine Vice-Mayor Nancy Sikes-Kline will host a public meeting to discuss proposed improvements to the section of King Street lying east of Malaga Street, according to an announcement received by Historic City News.

Paul Williamson, director of public affairs for the City, says the meeting has been called for Thursday, April 24th from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Markland House; located at 102 King Street.

The City is considering future streetscape and drainage improvements for the section of King Street east of Malaga Street. According to the announcement, community input related to the proposed work, and ways to pay for it, are being sought during the meeting.

A group of property owners, residents and businesses in the area, who feel that sidewalk repairs, provisions for parking, street drainage, underground power and telephone lines, are all long overdue for the major entrance corridor, have been communicating with the Florida Department of Transportation, city officials, and each other to clarify the need.

They want to hold the City accountable but the dialog has been mostly one-way, according to resident and business owner Bruce Maguire. Some of those stakeholders will be meeting early next week, before the City meeting, to discuss their common interests.
