Tuesday afternoon, St Johns County resident Ronald Stafford, announced that he had filed to run for the County Commission District 2 seat, currently held by Ronald F. Sanchez; bringing to five the number of candidates who will vie for the office.
Stafford, who lives on Christopher Street in St Augustine, will run on the ballot as a Democrat. If he qualifies during qualifying week, he will close the Primary Election for that seat; meaning that only Republican voters will be able to vote between one of the Republican candidates.
In the General Election in November, Stafford will face the highest vote getter from the Republican Primary which currently includes; Kim J. Kendall, Cory ‘Duke’ Mara, Ron Sanchez, and Jeb Smith.
Voters have seen Stafford’s name before in politics; most recently in 2012, he challenged District 2 School Board member, Tommy Allen, and lost. Stafford launched a write-in campaign for sheriff in 2004 and lost to David B. Shoar.
