Deputies shoot and kill man at domestic disturbance
Deputies responding to a domestic violence call reported to Historic City News that one man has been shot and killed at the scene. Major Crimes Unit detectives and investigators from the Office of the State Attorney for the 7th Judicial Circuit were still attempting to determine details about the officer-involved shooting.
Commander Chuck Mulligan informed local news reporters shortly after 9:00 p.m. last night, deputies responded to a residence in the 900 block of South Black Cherry Drive.
“The complainant reported that her estranged husband, who did not reside at the residence, was attempting to forcibly gain entry into the home,” Mulligan told Historic City News. “At this time, the preliminary investigation has begun into the shooting and will continue this morning.”
What we know at this time is that deputies spotted a man standing outside a broken window as they arrived at the scene and approached the front entrance to the home.
“Upon giving commands, the man turned and confronted the deputies, which led to at least one deputy firing their service weapon,” Mulligan reported today. “The identities of the deceased and the deputy involved will be released following the appropriate notifications.”
Mulligan said that the specifics related to the shooting are not fully known at this time. Officials are continuing to investigate to discover the facts and evidence involved.
The next anticipated update of information will be released Monday, following a briefing from the overnight crime scene processing.
