July 25, 1986 will be remembered by Historic City News readers as the date that a St Augustine landmark was born; or, reborn, so to speak. In a building once used as a grocery store (Snyder’s) and later a farm and garden supply store (St Johns Farmers Supply) located on Granada Street, Kenny Pierce introduced the city to “Pot Belly’s Cinema Plus Deli and Pub”.
Dubbed by Pierce’s wife, Eunice, as “the sequel” to the cinematic success of Cinema Plus, then located on King Street overlooking the Plaza; through the 90’s, Pot Belly’s would be the place to hang for Flagler College seniors and a younger crowd of beer-and-pizza fans who also enjoyed the occasional camp film like “Barbarella” or the 1975 cult classic “Rocky Horror Picture Show”, long out of distribution.
“The eclectic collection of memorabilia and antiques from Pot Belly’s, some of which has not been seen publically for nearly 30-years, has been stored away by its owner, Kenneth Pierce,” Cory Mara told Historic City News. Mara Auctioneers will conduct the auction on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the former Pot Belly’s location; 36 Granada Street, St Augustine. The doors will be thrown open at 9:00 a.m., and everything will be sold, at auction, to the highest bidder. Calling begins at 10:00 a.m. and the estate can be previewed on Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – Noon, or Friday, 9:00 a.m. – Noon; as well as Auction Day, starting at 9 a.m.
Mara provided us with some photographs that give you a taste of the quantity and quality of merchandise that comprises the estate. More photographs of various lots are available on Mara Auctioneers website.
