St Johns County farmers and ranchers were joined by staff from the Cooperative Extension Service this week to present exhibits celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the St Johns County Agricultural Center and the rich, centuries-old heritage of agribusiness that is second only to tourism in terms of economic impact.
The special spring exhibit, which will remain on display through April 24th, includes a display of historic art, tools, and farming equipment. Admission to the the Rotunda Gallery and exhibit is free, Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. inside the St Johns County Administration Palace, located at 500 San Sebastian View in St Augustine.
The implements displayed and shadowboxes featuring photographs of our diverse agricultural community, some as old as the late 1800’s, remind us of the advances we have made in producing potatoes, cabbage and greens, corn and other crops with educational assistance from the St Johns County Extension Service office, located inside the Agricultural Center.
Extension Agents of the University of Florida conduct research-based educational programs in agriculture, horticulture, family and consumer sciences, marine interest, and 4-H youth development.
