Two events, scheduled to occur over the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend, have been reported to Historic City News that will necessitate “brief road closures” and are likely to cause “brief traffic congestion”, according to St Augustine Public Affairs Director Paul Williamson.
Saturday, January 18th, a “Right to Life” march starting at 12:00 noon, will depart the Mission Nombre de Dios on San Marco Avenue and walk south to South Castillo Drive, continuing to St George Street on to the Plaza de la Constitución. The event is expected to last until 2:00 p.m. The procession will necessitate the brief interruption of vehicular traffic along those portions of San Marco Avenue starting at noon and lasting for approximately half an hour, Williams said.
On Monday, January 20th, a remembrance ceremony being held at the Gazebo in the Plaza de la Constitución, will start with a walking procession at 11:45 a.m. departing from St Paul’s AME Church, located at 85 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue. The route will take the procession along Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Bridge Street, Cordova Street, and King Street. The event is expected to last until 2:00 p.m.
