Its Fiesta day on Aviles Street and the local merchants association reports a great opening ceremony to Historic City News.
Sonny Shanks with Southern Exposure Real Estate Services, and Chairman of the Fiesta de Aviles, welcomed Don Pedro Menendez and led the opening the Fiesta de Aviles, now in its fifth year.
“It’s a beautiful day on Aviles Street,” said Nancy Birchall. “Don’t miss the running of the bulls at 4:00 p.m.” Birchall was on hand with the 450th Youth Ambassadors to tell the saga of the Aviles Street improvements in 2010 and assist with the weekend’s festivities.
Executive Director of the Ximenez-Fatio House, Julie Vaill-Gatlin, was helping to man their t-shirt table, making sure everyone has a “Running of the Bulls” shirt. In conjunction with the Fiesta, the Ximenez-Fatio House is hosting an Artisan Fair today.
Linda Brandt joined other craftsmen at the Artisan Fair with her books and “Henry the Tulip Bulb”. She will be available today to autograph a copy of her book just for you. The museum complex is located at 20 Aviles Street, America’s first platted thoroughfare, in the center of the city’s oldest community, the Old Town area, south of the Plaza.
