Just before 9:00 a.m. this morning, Historic City News local reporters welcomed Florida First Lady Ann Scott when she visited Ketterlinus Elementary School to provide special recognition for being one of the top five winners of the 2014 “First Lady’s Summer Literacy Adventure”.
The First Lady’s Summer Literacy Adventure challenged students to read as many books as possible during the summer break. Ketterlinus students registered 2,334 books read during this summer’s challenge.
“Research shows that children who do not continue reading through the summer can lose a month or more of progress made during the preceding school year,” Scott told local reporters. “By encouraging your children to read, parents play an important role in ensuring every child reads at or above grade level.”
First Lady Scott visited state parks this summer and encouraged children to keep reading while they enjoyed the natural beauty of Florida’s state parks.
