The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Park Service informed Historic City News local reporters that the Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach boasts the highest occupancy rate of any campground in the Florida Park Service.
Next week, a groundbreaking ceremony will celebrate the construction of a 34-site campground overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway; offering an option to campers and guests of the wildly popular park’s existing 34 ocean-side campsites.
“The design work for this project began July 1, 2013,” a Florida Park Service spokesman told Historic City News. “The new campground will add 30 RV sites and four tent sites and has a targeted opening date during the summer of 2015.”
The proximity to the Intracoastal Waterway will make this campground a very popular recreational opportunity. Campgrounds and recreation areas provide recreational, economic and quality-of-life benefits to local communities. This new campground will provide a new camping experience.

The event is being held on the west side of A1A. Look for park rangers and signs directing you to the best place to park. From St. Augustine, take A1A south for approximately 32 miles to the traffic light at SR-100. Continue straight through the light, heading south, and travel approximately another three miles to the park. The ranger station will be located on the drive on your right and the day-use beach facilities will be located on your left.
