The Special Primary Election for Florida Senate District 6, Florida House District 17 and District 24, will be held on January 27, 2015. The Special General Election will be held on April 7, 2015 and candidates are already lining up for the high stakes game of musical chairs precipitated by Florida Senator John Thrasher’s decision to resign his newly re-elected seat to accept the position as President of Florida State University.
Candidates for any of the three seats may qualify to appear on the ballot for the Special Election with the Florida Division of Elections between 8:00 a.m., December 1, 2014, and Noon, December 2, 2014.
To qualify by petition for the Senate District 6 seat, candidates must submit 881 valid signatures, or pay a qualifying fee of $1,781.82 to run with party affiliation, or pay $1,187.88 to run without Party Affiliation.
To qualify by petition for one of the House seats, candidates must submit 337 valid signatures (295 for District 24), or pay a qualifying fee of $1,781.82 to run with party affiliation, or pay $1,187.88 to run without Party Affiliation.
