Historic City News readers who would like to accompany the “Voice of Lincolnville” on her annual Christmas caroling excursion, will board the Red Train with Carrie Johnson and friends at the Willie Galimore Community Center, 399 Riberia St.at 5:00 p.m. Monday evening.
Stops will include both the Buckingham Smith and Bay View nursing homes as well as the Sisters of St. Joseph Convent. Carrie Johnson has raised her voice in harmony with other volunteer carolers in St Augustine since 1995. She will celebrate her 80th birthday in February.
“Miss Carrie is a Lincolnville icon,” said St Augustine mayor and Lincolnville resident, Nancy Shaver. “The voices of the carolers bring joy and entertainment to many of our senior residents who otherwise might not be able to travel to hear a holiday performance.”
When Miss Carrie worked, part-time, at St Francis House, a foundation was started in her name to help homeless school children by buying clothes, school supplies, book bags, sports uniforms and other items needed to help them fit in with other students and help normalize their lives. She is asking that donations be made payable to St Francis House with “Miss Carrie Foundation” written in the subject line.
