Historic City News was informed by the Court Communications Officer of the 7th Judicial Circuit that on next Thursday, May 15th, a new portrait of Fifth District Court of Appeals Judge Wendy W. Berger will be unveiled.
The ceremony will take place in Courtroom 264, which was Judge Berger’s courtroom during her more than seven year tenure on the circuit bench. The unveiling is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the Richard O. Watson Judicial Center located at 4010 Lewis Speedway in St Augustine.
Judge Berger earned both her undergraduate and law degrees from Florida State University. She was an assistant general counsel for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and assistant state attorney before being appointed to the bench of the 7th Judicial Circuit in April 2005. She presided over civil, probate and criminal divisions and the St. Johns County Adult Drug Court. She was appointed to the appellate court in September 2012.
The St. Johns County Bar Association is sponsoring the unveiling of the portrait; a traditional gesture when a judge retires, or, in this case, moves on to a higher court.
